MEDITATION

What is Meditation?

“Meditation is the art of uniting with Reality. The Art of Meditation is not a job to be performed as one does the duties of one’s professional life, since it is something special for higher growth. Worldly activities of life are in the form of a function of one’s individuality or personality which is to a large extent extraneous to one’s nature, due to which there is a fatigue after work and there are times when one gets fed up with work, altogether and becomes stressful. Meditation is one of the unique & wonderful Techniques to Release the Stress.

But Meditation is not such a function and it differs from activities with which man is usually familiar. If sometimes one is tired of Meditation , we have only to conclude one has only engaged oneself in another kind of activity, calling it Meditation , while in really it was not so.

Meditation is one of the proven Alternative Therapies. It can be broadly classified under the mind-body medicine. More and more doctors are prescribing Meditation as a way to lower blood pressure, improve exercise performance in people with angina, help people with asthma breathe easier, relieve insomnia and generally relax the everyday stresses of life.

Meditation is a safe and simple way to balance a person's physical, emotional, and mental states. It is simple; but can benefit everybody. The use of Meditation for healing is not new. Meditative techniques are the product of diverse cultures and peoples around the world. It has been rooted in the traditions of the world's great religions. In fact, practically all religious groups practice Meditation in one form or another. The value of Meditation to alleviate suffering and promote healing has been known and practiced for thousands of years. It has been scientifically shown that Meditation works.

Relaxation Leads to Meditation

If we say relaxation is the basic fundamental of Meditation – it is in fact a conscious relaxation, awareness relaxation. Meditation has been used over the years in many parts of the world to achieve deep relaxation and peace of mind. It is not a religion or philosophy but a tool that utilises our internal awareness to release tensions, gain self-confidence and peace. For better relaxation if we start to become aware of our breathing, it leads us to Deep Meditation with different Techniques of Meditation which is being discussed in other section.

Apart from medical cure, there are thousands of Alternative Healing System worldwide designed like Hypnotherapy, Reiki, Acupressure etc., but no any Alternative Healing System can substitute Meditation, since all Alternative Healing Systems are the differently and categorically defined healing systems, but not exactly the Meditation. No doubt in many Alternative Healing Systems, the basic practice of Meditation is added, since it is a universal way of calming down the mind and body.

Meditate for Quality of Life

Most of the people mix Meditation with the imagination but it is conscious relaxation. The continuous and conscious effort to focus our attention completely on our breathing takes us away from the out world. We have evolved many Methods of Meditation in another section where you can choose any one preferred one according to a person’s living conditions.

Basically each human being seeks happiness & prosperity in the materialistic world to fulfill his desire of high status, power, good relationships etc. Failing to what he seeks for; he reverts back to the internal realm through Meditation in order to understand the real happiness, which already exists. His search for fulfillment of aspiration inclined him towards Meditation, which is often accompanied by numerous crises and difficulties for beginners when he practices.

Though the main aim of the simpler Mediation is to gain the mental peace, but practicing higher level of Meditation not only increases the efficiency but also increases our interest toward routine activities. The difference between the simpler and higher difference form can be easily noticed in each and every phase of our life.

Misconceptions about Meditation

Generally Meditation is considered to be a difficult task to be performed easily and successfully by everyone. Most of the people are of the view that entering into Meditation; one has to get rid of all the worldly things like profession and family etc. Hence, it is quite clear that people are not yet fully aware of Meditation and still have lot of misconceptions about it.

There are descriptions in our ancient books about saints who used to meditate for years together in order to seek spiritual bliss and resultantly their physical condition deteriorated which counted as a major reason for misconception about Meditation.

Basically Aim of Meditation is to clean the impurities and disturbances of mind, such as lustful desires, hatred, anger, jealousy, pride, arrogance, ill-will, worries, restlessness and transforming them into pure and natural qualities as love, compassion, kindness, concentration, awareness, determination, energy, confidence, joy and tranquility.

Types of Meditation

Fundamentally there are various types of Meditation - prayer is probably the best known, but there is also:
TM (Transcendental Meditation)
Mindfulness Meditation
Zen Meditation
Buddhist Meditation
Taoist Meditation

All the practices of Meditation have one thing in common - they all focus on quieting the busy mind. The intention is not to remove stimulation but rather to direct your concentration to one healing element - one sound, one word, one image, or one's breath. When the mind is "filled" with the feeling of calm and peace, it cannot take off on its own and worry, stress out, or get depressed.

Miracles of Meditation

As we go through the day our mind begin to fill up with tensions, worries and begins to tighten up. Our blood pressure rises and feels strained or anxious or tired. Worries multiply triggering anxiety, fear, resentment; and temper flare-ups.

As the day progresses we get more irritated, more fearful, angrier and more tired as our mind continue to shut down. The mind is shut off to get new ideas. The body is under stress and we need relief.

Medical science has proven that stress and heart attacks are caused by cluttered and agitated mind. Resentment and worry can cause heart trouble and even cancer.

Meditation relieves us of stress and brings us serenity. Take a “time out”. “Pause” when agitated or doubtful. The moment we “take a time out” or a short Meditation, we begin to feel calm again. That is because the mind is opening up and we are letting go of useless fears and anxieties.
